About me

I have experienced first hand the health effects of different cultural norms while living a globalised upbringing. I lived in over a dozen cities throughout Russia, Europe, North America

and the UK. 

Being an athlete from a young age, I experienced the powerful benefits of physical exercise. It was this activity and discipline during my childhood taught me that perseverance and dedication beat talent any day of the week. 

Cycled from London to Athens to raise money to fight Childhood Obesity.

I hustled all my life to achieve my dreams, I took pride in sleeping very few hours, eating from the vending machine, and missing out on socialising for years. I was never more than 10 minutes away from an operating theatre and my patients who needed me.

Opened a Clinic for the Syrian Refugees in Lesvos, Greece, with the help and financial support of Susan Sarandon who believed in our work.

Through the years, I developed life-changing bowel problems and chronic chest infections. 

From a fit and healthy early adult life, all of a sudden, I found myself facing a tirade of chronic diseases that were medicated for symptomatic relief which never materialised. 

CT scans, endoscopies, blood tests and repeated chest X-rays found no organic cause. Pharmaceuticals couldn't relieve the symptoms. Antibiotics for my chest only made my stomach pains worse. I developed an accompanying skin condition that no steroid cream could get under control. The relentless cycle of illness affected my exercise tolerance, I gained weight which, in turn, affected my mental health for the first time in my life. It was during this time I realised that current medical practices failed me and many others. 

I threw myself into my own research and after dozens of books, research articles and podcasts

I discovered Evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine and the importance of the microbiota to our overall health. From this discovery, I made sustainable changes to my lifestyle that gave rise to an incredible recovery. By making simple and easy adjustments to nutrition, sleep, stress management, exercise and making time for the relationships that mattered to me I was able to completely reverse my chronic conditions, lose excess weight, re-energise my lifestyle and optimise my professional care for others. 

Organised and participated in a charity cycle from Lisbon to Chichester to raise funds for the charity Love Your Hospital 

I am currently training for my first ever Ironman challenge while continuing work the NHS, running an initiative called Think Lifestyle Community for NHS workers and providing lifestyle coaching to industry leaders and high-performance individuals.

  • Core Surgical Training in Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Orthopaedics, Upper GI Surgery

  • Trauma Fellow training in Emergency Medicine, Leeds Trauma Centre

  • Member of the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine

  • Member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine

  • Currently working towards full accreditation with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine
